Premier League giants Liverpool FC are inching closer to completing the signing of Porto winger Luis Diaz.
The Merseysiders as per multiple sources have struck a deal with the Portugese club and the player’s interest is said to be high in joining the Reds.
Tottenham Hotspurs were the first side to publicly express interest in the Colombian international and even submitted a transfer bid for the player but the player declined their offer saying he would be willing to wait for a possible switch to Liverpool in the summer.
It is understood Luis Diaz was aware of Liverpool’s interest, and his advisors held out for a ‘higher level’, with his agents believing he was ready for the top with a powerful Champions League club.
Liverpool reportedly went for the player in January as interest was high for the player as arch-rivals Manchester United also appeared to be interested. In fact, United boss Ralf Rangnick reportedly held some private conversations with Diaz on a possible switch to Old Trafford.
Liverpool are said to have offered a fee worth €40m plus a potential €15m add-ons and are reported to have reached an agreement with Porto.
Liverpool and FC Porto are preparing paperworks in order to complete Luís Diaz deal as soon as possible with both sides discussing on final details.
Meanwhile while Diaz has agreed personal terms to join Liverpool immediately.
Diaz is set to undergo a medical in Argentina this weekend as he is away on international assignment with his country Colombia.
Luis Diaz will sign a five-year contract that will see him remain at the club till 2027.
The Colombia international is a powerful, athletic left-winger who at most times cuts inside onto his preferred right foot using pace, power and skill.
Diaz has been with Porto since 2019, having joined from Junior de Barranquilla in Colombia, and has since gone on to play 125 games for the Portuguese side. Of these games were two matches against Liverpool in this season’s group stage of the Champions League.
On the international stage, Diaz made his debut for Colombia in 2018 at the age of 21, and has since gone on to become a regular – he helped his side finish third in the 2021 Copa America.
