In what has been a crazy deadline day transfer saga, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang finally joins Barcelona on a free transfer from Arsenal.

It was meant to be a loan deal until Arsenal made clear of their to Aubameyang that they have no intention to pay part of his wages for the Catalan giants.

The Premier league side became willing to let the 32-year-old leave on a free transfer five months from the end of his £350,000-a-week contract.

The Gabonese international was stripped of captaincy duties in December after what was termed as his “latest disciplinary breach” for failing at his stipulated period. He has not kicked a ball in an Arsenal shirt since December 6, 2021.

Aubameyang who scored 92 goals in 163 games for the gunners leaves Arteta left with two known strikers in the squad – Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette, both strikers are out of contract in the summer. It remains to be seen if or when they will sign a new contract.

Aubameyang’s departure sees Arsenal make an estimated profit of around £25m in wages.

Aubameyang’s exit leaves Arsenal fans perplexed. The club have sold a player and also released a few out on loan but no made major signings have been made apart from a defender from Colorado Raptors – Auston Trusty who will remain on loan at his club until the end of the season.

Arsenal fans are clearly unhappy with the situation at hand. Unfortunately, they have to wait again till the next transfer window which comes up in the summer. Perhaps, the Arsenal board will give the fans the major signings what they want.
