Cameroon captain Vincent Aboubakar has confessed that Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah “doesn’t impress” him.
Mohamed Salah has been the cream of the crop in Jurgen Klopp’s side ever since his arrival in the summer of 2017 and this campaign hasn’t been a difference as the 29-year-old has scored 23 goals and racked up 9 assists in all competitions in the current campaign.
His scintillating display has earned him plaudits from fans all over with his podium finish in the FIFA The Best Awards back in January being a loud testament. However, the Afcon’21 leading scorer sees the other side of the coin as he seems to be disinterested in all of that while further adding that PSG forward Kylian Mbappe is on a higher pedestal compared to the Egyptian winger.
“I see him as he was before,” Aboubakar told RFI.
“He’s having a great season in the Premier League, helping his country to advance in this competition (AFCON). I wish him a lot of luck. May the best man win!”
“I’m not very impressed with him. I say it clearly because I am an honest person and I have my own way of seeing things. If he impressed me, I would say so. But he doesn’t impress me much.”
Vincent Aboubakar is the leading goalscorer in the competition with 6 goals while Mo Salah has 2 goals to his name, and also converted the winning penalty against Ivory Coast to progress to the quarter-final.
“He’s a good player, he scores a lot but he doesn’t produce a lot of stuff in the game. Of course he does good things in the Premier League because he’s been in a team for years.”
“He is a good player but not at the level of someone like Mbappe”, He added.
The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon are set to go against Egypt in Thursday’s AFCON semi-final match at the Olembe stadium, the winner would go on to take on Senegal in the final on February 6. The match is set to kick off by 8pm (WAT).
The last meeting between both sides was when they faced off in the AFCON final during the 2017 edition, Aboubakar’s goal was the difference as Cameroon went on to clinch the title with a 2-1 victory.
