Efe Ambrose, a former Super Eagles defender, has joined Dunfermline Athletic FC on loan from St Johnstone until the end of the season.
Efe Ambrose has played 366 professional games, 169 of them with Celtic, where he made 37 appearances in the Champions League and Europa League.
Additionally, the 33-year-old has 47 Nigerian caps and has represented his country at the U20, U23, and Olympic levels. He was a member of the 2013 African Cup of Nations winning side, appearing in all 90 minutes of the final.
“We got him, I’m absolutely delighted and it’s down to the non stop persistence of the chairman once again. I don’t know what we are going to do when the chairman steps down because it is all down the chairman, Efe and St Johnstone to be fair.”
Efe has been on manager John Hughes’ radar for some weeks and he is thrilled to welcome him to Dunfermline.
The Pars boss expressed his gratitude to his St Johnstone counterpart and disclosed that Efe has shown a genuine desire to join Dunfermline and play football.
“That is all he wants to do. That experience and
that CV, the quality of the human being is going
to be massive for Dunfermline. I think he will
turn into a fans’ favourite.”
Ambrose began his professional career in 2006 with Kaduna United, his native club in Nigeria, before joining Israel’s Premier League team FC Ashdod in June 2010.
He drew Celtic’s attention after two years there. Ambrose signed a three-year contract with the Scottish Premier League team on the final day of the summer 2012 transfer window.
Ambrose joined Hibernian on loan for the remainder of the 2016-2017 season after unsuccessful loan transfers at Standard Liège and Blackburn Rovers. Ambrose signed a two-year deal with Hibernian when his deal with Celtic expired at the end of the season.
Following halt Ambrose signed a short-term contract with Derby County in February 2019.
He moved on to Livingston and subsequently to St Johnstone in subsequent transfers. Efe has appeared in eight matches for the Perth side this season, the last coming on 30th October 2021.
Ambrose might be included in the Pars squad for their Saturday match against Ayr United if everything goes according to plan.
