Austine Eguavoen, the interim coach of Nigeria’s senior national team, has commented on the selection of Emmanuel Amuneke as one of his assistants.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirmed the appointment of the former Nigeria U17 coach to the Super Eagles’ new coaching staff ahead of their 2022 World Cup qualifying playoff against Ghana.

Eguavoen keeps his post as interim technical adviser, with Amuneke taking over as second assistant from Salisu Yusuf. Yusuf was demoted from the position of second assistant he had at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

When the News Agency of Nigeria questioned the coach if he was happy with his choice to add Amuneke to his squad, he said that he was looking forward to working with him, referring to him as his younger brother.

“He (Amuneke) is my younger brother and we have worked together for so long. I think his coming into the team will add a lot of value also,” Eguavoen
