The Super Falcons of Nigeria have qualified for the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations after defeating the Ivory Coast 1-0 in Abidjan on a 3-0 aggregate.
The Nigerian contingent went to Abidjan for the second leg of their AWCON 2022 encounter against the Ivory Coast.
Heading into the game, Nigeria had the upper hand thanks to a brace by Ifeoma Onumonu in the first leg, which had given them a two-goal lead.
Asisat Oshoala who is the skipper of the team wasn’t available for selection due to injury.
The Falcons didn’t start well as the Lady Elephants appeared to be more hungrier.
Nnadozie was Nigeria’s hero in the first half as she put up outstanding goalkeeping that kept Nigeria in the game.
In the second half, CIV intensified the pressure, but Nigeria held their own, as a draw would be enough to see them go through.
Esther Okoronkwo broke the deadlock in the 88th minute and the goal gave Nigeria a 1-0 win..
At the end Nigeria won 3-0 on aggregate and that earned Nigeria a spot in the 2022 AWCON, which will be held in Morocco in July of this year.
