Nigeria women’s basketball team forward, Chidom Oderah is looking forward to what the five times African Champions will accomplish at the FIBA women’s World Cup.
The draws was conducted on Thursday, with Nigeria drawing host nation Australia, France, Japan, Canada and Serbia. The Nigeria Women’s basketball team (D’Tigress) will be Africa’s sole representative at the tournament, scheduled to take place in Sydney, Australia, in September.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with OJBSPORT, the France-based forward said ; “You know Nigerian basketball is on the rise, it will be a beautiful thing to see what we can accomplish in this tournament.”
After losing their opening day World Cup qualifiers to China last month, the team bounced back by beating world number five, France and continental rivals Mali to pick up the last available ticket on offer for the mondial event in Sydney.
“We have a lot of confidence going in, we are growing as an organisation and I think with that it’s going to be a recipe for us to make some big noise in the tournament.
“We have a lot of experience as a team playing at international competitions, we’ve been there before, it’s not our first rodeo anymore. We have experience, we have players that have played at this event, we are going and we are showing up to make some noise.”
At the 2018 World Cup in Spain, Nigeria posted the continent’s best performance as they exited the tournament in the last eight.
