The Super Eagles of Nigeria goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye has revealed how disappointed he his to miss the crucial playoff against the Black Stars of Ghana.
Okoye had to pull out of the squad for the crucial World Cup play-offs between Nigeria and Ghana, which will hold on 25 and 29 March.
The 22-year-old shot stopper disclosed he tested positive to coronavirus a day before he planned to join the Super Eagles camp and added that he’s very sad to not be part of the team.
“I was tested positive a day before my flight and I did a second test also positive.”
Okoye, who plays club football for Sparta Rotterdam in the Netherlands, said. “It’s sad because I don’t feel bad, I don’t have any symptoms. I just played on the weekend for my club.”
“It’s unfortunate but I just want to send my love to the people and to the team and best of luck for this big clash.
“I’m very sad to miss this big game but I’m sure the team will do the job and we’ll meet again in Qatar. So best of luck Nigeria and may God bring us victory.”
Maduka has made 21 appearances for Sparta Rotterdam in the Dutch top division this season.
