Newcastle United and West Ham United are showing strong interest in Nigerian centre forward, Taiwo Awoniyi.
The former Liverpool forward has netted 16 goals and provided four assists in all competition this season for Union Berlin. 11 in the Bundesliga, one in the DFB- Pokal Cup and four in the Europa Conference League.
His best ever tally in Europe was in the 2018/2019 season when he scored 14 goals in 38 appearances while on loan at KAA Gent of Belgium. He scored seven league goals in 25 appearances, one in four Europa League qualifiers, two goals in the Belgian Cup and four other goals in the JPL Playoff II.
Union Berlin’s coach, Fischer Urs, last year admitted it’s normal for bigger clubs to come knocking at the door of Union Berlin in request of the 24-year-old striker.
“It’s normal in football that when you begin to make a name for yourself, bigger teams will come knocking at the door.
“I am very happy for the players when they can get to the next level, but it also doesn’t help me as a coach when good players leaves but that’s sadly football.” He said.
Fulham and Southampton are also closely monitoring his situation, and are willing to land the lanky striker.
Union Berlin host in form Köln later today, and Awoniyi will be hoping to get on the scoreboard.
A win for Fischer’s men will revive their European dream.
