The Confederation of African Football (CAF) were in Uyo, Akwa Ibom’s capital, to evaluate the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, which might host the Champions League final.
The ‘Nest of Champions’ stadium is Nigeria’s best and has previously hosted Super Eagles matches.
According to Paul Bassey, Senior Special Assistant on Sports to Akwa Ibom State Governor, a CAF group began inspecting the site on Saturday.
On Sunday, April 3rd, the CAF team completed their assessment and will determine whether the stadium is suitable for the CAF Champions League final.
The NPFL champions, Akwa Utd, play at the Nest of Champions and have one of the most passionate fan bases in the league.
If the final be held in the stadium, it will be the first time in more than a decade that a Champions League final has been held in Nigeria.
Heartland FC of Owerri are the last Nigerian team to reach the final of the continent’s greatest football club cup competition. They lost the games on aggregate to TP Mazembe in 2009.
