Manchester United and Portuguese forward, Cristiano Ronaldo has fired back at his former teammate, Wayne Rooney.

Rooney was a special guest on Monday Night Football and he questioned the five-times Ballon d’Or winner’s return to Old Trafford.

When asked if the re-signing of Ronaldo has worked for Manchester United ; “You’d have to say no at the minute. Obviously he’s scored goals, important goals in the Champions League early on in the season. He scored obviously the hat-trick against Tottenham.

“I think he’s scored goals, he’s scored important goals in the Champions League early on in the season, he scored the hat-trick against Tottenham, but I think if you’re looking to the future of the club, you have to go with younger, hungry players to do the best and lift Manchester United over these next two or three years.” He replied.

The Derby County gaffer went further and said : “He’s certainly not the player he was in his 20s and that happens – that’s football. He’s a goal threat but the rest of the game they need more, they need young, hungry players.”

Ronaldo took to Rooney’s Instagram page to make his feeling known, he hit out at the former England international, branding him ‘Jealous’.

He wrote: “Two jealous,” accompanied with the eye emoji.

Ronaldo has scored 18 goals in all competitions this season since returning to Old Trafford.

But the Red Devils will go another campaign without a trophy as their charge for Champions League qualification appears to be fading.
