Former Liverpool forward, Dirk Kuyt is planning to take up boxing and is seeking a celebrity opponent for a fight later this year.

The 41-year-old striker hung up his boots in 2018 after an excellent career in which he played in England, the Netherlands and Turkey.

According to AD, Kuyt will fight in the ‘Hit It‘ event in Rotterdam, and he has spoken of his excitement at this new adventure.

“As a former football player, I know what it is to be in a stadium,” Kuyt told Humberto.

“It’s been four years since I stopped playing football. And, of course, I miss that tension and the fight to win a match.

“I have played a few other sports, like tennis, padel and fitness. But being in the ring is new for me.

Kuyt went on to state that he is looking to fight against another celebrity.

“I would love to be in that battle against another celebrity. Starting from now I will train hard.” He concluded.

His last experience of football was in 2017, he helped Feyenoord win the Dutch Eredivisie title on the final day of the season.

Kuyt currently works as a TV pundit, and he is now preparing for the start of his boxing career. He is set to take part in an event in October organised by kickboxer Rico Verhoeven, but has yet to find a willing opponent.
