Nigeria international and Villarreal forward, Samuel Chukwueze scored late in the second half to earn Villarreal a 1-1 draw against Bayern Munich and send the Spanish side through to the semifinals of the Champions League.

Villarreal had beaten Bayern 1-0 in the first leg in Spain, but the German giants leveled the tie when they took the lead through Robert Lewandowski in the 52nd minute of the second leg at the Allianz Arena.

Bayern dominated and kept pushing for a second goal. But with the game heading to extra time, Chukwueze, who had only been on the pitch for three minutes, slammed the ball home into the roof of the net to crush German hearts and send Villarreal into their first Champions League semifinals in 16 years.

Villarreal striker, Gerard Moreno speaking before the game, underlined the importance of the match, emphasising that it is one of the most important games in the club’s history.

“It is one of the most important games Villarreal have ever played because of the difficulty, the opponent and because it is the quarter-finals of the Champions League. We are expecting a very significant match.” He said.

This is the first time Unai Emery is taking a team into the semifinals of the Champions League for the first time in his managerial career. The Yellow Submarine team now await the result of Liverpool Vs. Benfica, to know who they will play next in the semifinal.
