Trent Alexander-Arnold has fired a warning to his teammates as they prepare to take on Villarreal in the second leg of the Champions League semifinal on Tuesday.
Jurgen Klopp’s men go into the second leg with a 2-0 advantage. An own goal from Pervis Estupinan in the second half, followed by a quick strike from Senegalese Sadio Mane was enough to give the Reds’ the advantage.
Sadio Mane’s goal marked his 14th goal in the UCL knockout stages, tying Côté d’ivoire’s Didier Drogba’s record for the most by an African in competition history.
“We want to go there and win. We know we can’t be silly and get drawn into how they want to play but we want to make sure we get through,” Alexander said to the media.
“It’s a good lead but at the same time, it’s dangerous. Complacency cannot slip in. It’s been a excellent campaign so far. We’ve seen off a lot of big teams.
“We hope to bed them to bed and make it our third final appearance in five seasons.” He concluded.
Liverpool are hunting for a seventh European crown in what could be a historic season.
Villarreal will build on their home record in the Champions League this season as they host Liverpool. And also an unbeaten run at home across all competitions that stretches back to December 2021.
