Liverpool came from behind to claim a 1 win away at Aston Villa to go level on points with Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table.

The home – side started the game in the front foot. Brazilian midfielder Douglas Luiz found the back of the net in the 3rd minute after Liverpool keeper, Alisson failed to hold his header.

But Liverpool responded quickly and restored parity three minutes later through defender Joel Matip. Sadio Mane put the visitors ahead with a superb angled header from Luis Diaz’s cross in the 65th minute.

Gerrard and Klopp both sprinted for the tunnel at half-time, a neat reflection of the urgency of the contest, and it did not relent in the second half, Liverpool eager to resume where they left off.

Liverpool started the second half with a bit of urgency, pressed high, trying to pen Villa back, and they probed, Alexander-Arnold almost releasing Díaz with a lovely ball over the top.

20 minutes into the second half, Sadio Mane connected with an inch perfect cross from Luis Diaz to give the Reds’ the lead.

“It was a good cross from Diaz, but I was in the box, so I think this moment you just think of putting the ball in the net, I think even without power usually it’s good.

“I know Diaz very well, he’s a good player, we know each other and we train everyday. In training also, when he got the ball I knew that he was going to cross the ball, so I was just ready for it.” Mane said to sky sports after the game.
