Taiwo Awoniyi scored twice as Union Berlin secure a fifth-place finish in the Bundesliga and a place in next season’s UEFA Europa League.

Union Berlin started the game on the front foot as they opened the scoring three minutes into the game.

Grisha Prömel nods in a pinpoint cross from Genki Haraguchi to give Urs Fischer men the lead. 20minutes later, Taiwo Awoniyi scored from the spot to double ‘The Iron Ones’ lead for the before the break.

The visitors rallied their way back into the game with goals from Simon Zoller in the 55th minutes and Eduard Lowen, who’s on loan from Hertha Berlin in the 79th minute. Eduard Lowen curled home after good work from Takuma Asano.

With three minutes of regular time left to play, Awoniyi was on hand to steal the headlines as he pounced on a loose ball, calmly played his way into the area and slotted home left-footed to send the Union fans wild.

The Nigerian international finished as Union’s leading scorer with a career-best 15 league goals.
