Joel Aribo, Leon Balogun and Calvin Bassey are part of the the first Rangers team to reach an European final in 14 years in tonight’s blockbuster against Eintracht Frankfurt. They are set to become the first Scottish side to win the European Cup if they win tonight.

Other Nigerians who have won this tournament include Taribo West and Nwankwo Kanu in 1997-98 when Inter Milan defeated Lazio 3-0, Chidi Odiah with CSKA Moscow in 2004-05, John Mikel Obi and Victor Moses with Chelsea in 2012-13. Victor Moses won it again in 2018-19 with Chelsea to be the only Nigerian to have won the trophy twice.

Many would have predicted an all-German final after Frankfurt and RB Leipzig each secured first-leg advantages in their respective semifinal. However, James Tavernier, Glen kamara and John lundstram’s goal was able to secure a 3-2 win over RB Leipzig in the second leg.

Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst said after the semifinal win against Leipzig that to reach a final is “always a good feeling”, but you will have “a better feeling” if you win the final. “That’s all we have to do.”

Eintracht Frankfurt arrive at the final having won FC Barcelona 4-3 in the quarters and West Ham United 3-1 in the semis. “Slowly something is falling into place, It’s the best thing when you can make so many people happy. For us, it’s all about this final.” said Manager Oliver Glasner.
