New manager; same outcome was the case at the AT&T stadium earlier today as the Super Eagles lost 2-1 to El Tri of Mexico.
The Mexicans were at the forefront of the game attacking on all sides and it didn’t take long for them to break the deadlock through Giminez in the 12th minute of the game.
El tri dominated the entirety of the match having eight shots with four on target and Nigeria goalkeeper, Francis Uzoho, up to the task in saving the goal-bound shots. However, the Super Eagles couldn’t register a single shot on target in the first 45 minutes.
The second half kicked off in the same fashion as the first half but the exciting run and cross from Bassey was able to find Cyriel Dessers in the box to head home from close range.
This is the Europa Conference League top scorer first goal for the Super Eagles.
It didn’t take long for the Mexicans to restore their lead cutting the Super Eagles celebration short courtesy of an appalling own goal from Super Eagles captain on the night, William Troost-Ekong.
The game was locked in with both sides trying to capitalize on each other mistakes. The match ended 2-1 in favour of El Tri.
