Nigeria and Rangers duo, Joe Aribo and Calvin Bassey have been named in the Scottish Premiership official Team of the Season.
Despite losing the league to Celtics, Aribo and Bassey were vital in their Scottish Cup triumph and in their remarkable sojourn to the UEFA Europa League final.
The midfield maestro, 25, played as a box to box midfielder, a right winger and even as a false 9, most prominiently in the UEFA Europa League final where he found the back of the net.
“A fine season for the Rangers midfielder, with an incredible highlight reel! Stunning goals against Ross County, Livingston, Hearts and St. Mirren among others, Aribo was another player for the Ibrox men who shone in the league.”the award organizers said of Aribo’s honour.
The 22-year-old compatriot won Glasglow Rangers Young Player of the year having cemented his place in the defense either as a centre back or left back.
Bassey was sloted in at left back position in the Scottish Premiership Team of the Season. The award organizers explained their decision, saying:
“A revelation in the Rangers backline, the 22-year-old began to show his real quality as the season progressed.
“Whether deployed at left-back or at centre-back, Bassey performed to a remarkable level not only in the league, but in Rangers’ deep runs in cup competitions at home and abroad.”
The Nigerian duo make up 2 of the 3 Glasglow Rangers players featured in the Lineup alongside team’s captain, James Tavenier.
After an incredible performance against Sierra Leone, they will be soaring to go against São Tome and Principe on Monday in the second game of AFCON 2023 qualifiers.
