Former Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi has responded to criticism from Ex-international and his former coach, Sunday Oliseh.

Sunday Oliseh had earlier stated that he doesn’t like the way Mikel plays football and prefers Wilfried Ndidi to the former Champions League winner.

While speaking on a podcast with Babayaro and Elegbete, Oliseh explained why he chose Musa as captain of the super Eagles ahead of Mikel after his fall out with Vincent Enyeama.

Oliseh explained that Mikel didn’t play the way he wanted him to perform and he wasn’t a right fit for his team.

Mikel in an interview with thisdaylive also cleared the air abouth his alleged disagreement with Alex Iwobi during the AFCON 2019.

“Few things happened towards my final days in the national team and I was very careful not to react in a way that will affect the group.

” I thought I had a good relationship with the coach (Gernot Rohr) but after  I left, I read somethings in the media that there were issues between Alex Iwobi and I during the Nations Cup in Egypt.

“Unfortunately, it was the opposite because I have a solid relationship with the player just like others in the national team.

“I read it just the same way I learnt  few days ago about my disagreement with Sunday Oliseh when he was the coach. All these are mere distraction and will  not want to join issues with anyone. Respect is the key rather than unnecessary attention. ” Mikel concluded.
