Super Falcons of Nigeria defender, Ashleigh Plumptre has expressed her disappointment over the Falcon’s poor performance against their South African opponents at the ongoing 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

Banyana Banyana stunned defending champions, Super Falcons of Nigeria 2-1 in the Group C opening match at the 2022 WAFCON in Morocco on Monday.

Two quick second half goals from Jermaine Seoposenwe who returned to the Banyana Banyana set-up for the first time since 2019, and Hildah Tholakele Magaia was enough for Desire Ellis team to grab the maximum three points.

Atletico Madrid winger, Rasheedat Ajibade pulled one back in the stoppage time to reduce the deficit.

The result was similar to that of 2018 WAFCON where Banyana Banyana scored late in the second half of their opening game against Super Falcons.

Reacting after the game, Ashleigh Plumptre called out some performance of her teammates.

“I preferred to play as center-back, but I will give hundred percent anywhere the coach plays me.

“It is frustrating to give hundred in the game while one or two aren’t given their best – Ashleigh Plumptre.” She added.

The Super Falcons will next face debutants Botswana while South Africa takes on Burundi.
