Super Eagles defender, Tyronne Ebuehi has signed a three year contract with Seria A side Empoli.

Ebuehi joins the Seria A team from Benfica after performing well on loan to Venezia last season.

Although, the full-back did not play any match for Benfica during his stint in Portugal due to many reasons including injury, he featured 19 times on loan for Venezia in the Seria A last season.

However, his performances couldn’t prevent Venezia from relegating down to Seria B.

Ebuehi and Paolo reunited

Ebuehi will reunite with his former Venezia boss, Paolo Zanetti in Empoli.

Zanetti coached Ebuehi last season before he was sacked in April for consecutive losses.

The 26-year-old is expected to flourish under the guidance of Paolo Zanetti as he did at Venezia.

What to expect

The Super Eagles right-back who can also play as a left-back is expected to spark the attacking threat of his new team.

He is not a full-back with a lot of defensive and tackling prowess but will be able to compensate for that with his attacking returns.

Ebuehi played 111 games in the Eridevise for ADO den Haag and FC Twente before joining Benfica four years ago where he couldn’t feature in any match.

Consistent good performances will offer him an opportunity to reclaim his spot at the right back of the Super Eagles where he represented Nigeria at the 2018 World Cup.

The 26-year-old will face stiff competition from Ola Aina and Shehu Abdullahi to earn back his national team shirt.
