The ministry of youth and sports development has released the full list of all 94 athletes representing Nigeria at the upcoming 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England.
The list was put out via a statement by the ministry on Thursday.
Nigeria will be participating in nine sports namely athletics, boxing, judo, para-athletics, para-table tennis, para-powerlifting, table tennis, weightlifting, and wrestling.
Athletics has the largest contingent with 33 athletes, followed by wrestling, which has 10.
Tobi Amusan, the world record holder in 100-meter hurdles, will be defending the title she won four years ago at the Gold Coast in Australia.
She will be hoping to replicate the feat achieved at the just concluded 2020 World Athletics Championships.
Ese Brume, coming off her silver medal performance in the women’s long jump at the world championships, will be aiming to finish a step further at Birmingham and earn her second Commonwealth Games gold medal.
In wrestling, Blessing Oborodudu and Odunayo Adekuoroye are billed to defend their gold medal victories in the 68kg and 57kg respectively.
Aruna Quadri will also be aiming to better the silver medal he won four years ago in Australia and marshall the men’s table tennis team.
Oborodudu and Nnamdi Innocent, a powerlifter, have been named as the captains of the Nigerian contingent.
The games are scheduled to hold between July 28 and August 8.
