Moses Simon is set to arrive in Israel with his French team, Nantes FC, for the Super Cup game against Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).
The Super Cup is a trophy contested in an annual match between the champions of Ligue 1 and the winners of the Coupe de France.
Nantes FC won the Coupe De France last season, defeating OGC Nice by 1-0 at the Stade de France in Paris. While PSG reclaimed the Ligue 1 title with 15 points difference between them and Marseille who came second.
The Super Cup was first played outside France in 2009 at the Olympic Stadium in Montreal, Canada. The game was between Bordeaux and Guingamp, with Bordeaux winning by 2-0.
It has since been held in Tunisia, Morocco, the United States, Gabon, China, Austria and, most recently, Israel.
Lille beat PSG in last year’s Super Cup by 1-0. Making them the seventh club to lift the Trophy after Paris (10), Lyon (7), Bordeaux, Marseille, Monaco and Nantes (each 2).
Miguel Ângelo da Silva Rocha’s (Xeka) first-half strike was enough to inflict defeat on PSG, who were pipped to the 2020/2021 Ligue 1 title by Lille with just a point.
This is Israel’s second year hosting the Trophee des Champions, or the French Super Cup, after the season opener was brought to the Jewish State last year by billionaire Sylvan Adams.
Over 27,500 fans watched the Super Cup final at the Bloomfield Stadium in Tel Aviv last year.
Former Watford midfielder, Moussa Sissoko said it would be a dream come true to win the Super cup with Nantes.
“First of all, when I was a kid, my dream was to become a professional footballer and I managed to achieve it. The rest is just a bonus. But my career isn’t over, and if I can pick up a few trophies, it will be with pleasure.” He said to Ligue 1.
