Joe Ayodele Aribo scores a wonder goal in a pre-season friendly against Villarreal.

The Super Eagles midfielder started the preseason match for Ralph HasenhĂŒttl’s side but conceded the first goal after Yeremy Pino found the back of the net 15 minutes into the game.

Aribo magnificently picked the ball from his own half and sprinted past some Villarael players before dribbling and leaving about five of them for dead and curling the ball past Pepe Reina into the back of the net.

The goal has made a lot of football lovers liken it to Maradona 1986 World Cup quarterfinal goal against England.

Speaking on his Maradona-esque goal, Aribo said:

“I was laughing with the boys inside, Aribo told the Southampton website.

“I said I didn’t even know where I pulled that chop on the right foot out from, but it was a really good feeling to score at home, and hopefully, I can take that into games to come and help the boys this season.”

“It’s really important [to have scored], and hopefully, I can take that momentum into the games to come,” he added.

The Saints eventually lost the match to the Yellow submarines as Gerrard Moreno scored the winner for the Spanish side in the 74th minute.
