Cyriel Dessers scored twice in Genk’s 3-1 win against Standard Liege at the Cegeka Arena on Sunday, in the Jupiler League week two fixtures.

The 27-year-old forward was involved in all of the goals scored by Genk. He scored the first and third goal – and assisted the second goal 11 minutes after scoring the first.

Dessers has now scored three goals in two games as he continues to shine for the Belgian club despite persistent rumours linking him with a transfer away from the club.

Having lost their first game to Club Brugge, Genk needed to get a win at home against Liege who drew their first game at home.

Dessers opened the scoring on a pretty piece of attacking play, connecting with a pass from Ghanaian forward, Joseph Paintsill to give the home side the lead.

The Nigerian striker then turned provider for strike partner Tresor in the 16th minute as Genk dominated the opening stages of the encounter.

Thirteen minutes later, Dessers’ scored from the spot to complete the damage and secure the maximum three points for Vracken’s men.

The win took Genk up to fifth on three points after two games in the 18-team league table.
