Adijat Olarinoye won Nigeria’s first medal at the ongoing Commonwealth Games after emerging gold medalist in the women’s weightlifting competition, OJBSPORT reports.

Before winning the Commonwealth Gold, Olarinoye broke two records in 10 minutes lifting 90kg & 92kg.

Olarinoye lifted 92kg in the snatch and in the clean and jerk, she lifted 111kg for a total of 203kg, which was good enough for gold.

She went on to lift a total of 203kg in the women’s 55kg weightlifting event, a games record, to win the women’s 55kg Weightlifting event.

India’s Bindyarani Sorokhaibam got second while Fraer Morrow of England clinched the bronze medal.
