Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun has joined Ligue 1 side, Stade Reims on loan for the 2022/2023 season.

The 21-year-old Gunners academy graduate extended his contract last season with the North London team, committing himself to Arsenal until 2025.

Balogun was loaned out in the second half of last season to Middlesbrough, he netted three goals and provided three assists in nine Championship starts for Chris Wilder’s team, as they fell short of reaching the play-offs.

The next step in his development will see Balogun head to France with Reims, who have confirmed his arrival on a 12-month loan.

Reims are looking for a new starting striker after losing youngster, Hugo Ekitike to Paris Saint-Germain. The 20-year-old, who managed ten goals in 24 appearances last year, moved to Paris on loan with a view to a permanent deal.

The Red and White team finished 12th in Ligue 1 last season, 12 points above the relegation zone, and begin their new campaign on Sunday against Marseille.

Balogun becomes the French side’s sixth signing of the transfer window, following the additions of Junya Ito, Andreaw Gravillon, Emmanuel Agbadou, Patrick Pentz and Maxime Busi
