Team Nigeria has now won 9 gold, 8 silver, and 13 bronze to be ranked sixth at the Commonwealth games, two positions ahead of last night’s standings.

Eucharia Iyiazi, threw a new Commonwealth Games record of 10.03m to win the gold medal in the women’s F55-57 Shot Put final at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games on Saturday while Ugochi Alam won bronze in the same event.

Miesinnei Genesis won yet another gold medal for Team Nigeria after defeating Canada’s Madison Parks, to win the women’s wrestling freestyle 50kg at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games on Saturday.

Genesis recorded a 3-1 (Victory by fall) to easily win the contest to make it three gold medals for Nigeria from wrestling.

Ebikewenimo Welson won a silver medal in freestyle 57kg after losing to India’s Kumar Ravi and Faith Obazuaye won Nigeria’s first medal in the Table Tennis event at this year’s games.

Nigeria now has a total of 30 medals comprising 9 golds, 7 silver, and 13 bronze. Team Nigeria sits at sixth position on the log behind Australia, England, Newzealand, Canada, and India.

However, Nigeria has overthrown South Africa as the highest ranking team in Africa with Team South Africa ranking 8th in the ongoing Commonwealth games in Birmingham.
