Super Eagles right back, Tyronne Ebuehi has revealed how injuries affected his career and how he plans to break into the national team.

The 26-year-old career has been greatly affected by injuries, leaving him on the sidelines for months at Benfica.

The Netherland-born star career has been on the rise since last season after a successful loan spell at Venezia in the Seria A.

Speaking at the Antonio Bassi press room at Empoli, Ebuehi spoke on his plight at Benfica regarding injuries and how it has affected his national team call-up.

“My personal goal is to be in good physical condition, during last season in Venice the team and I did well in the first part of the championship while in the second half of the season, after returning from the African Cup, I had many injuries,” Ebuehi told the club’s official website.

“It was really difficult for me both physically and mentally. That’s why my main goal this season is to be healthy as well as scoring goals and assists.

“If I do well, I will have the chance to go to the national team, this is one of my goals “.

The skilful defender will face stiff competition from Ola Aina and Shehu Abdullahi for the right-back position.

Ebuehi also spoke on the reason why he signed for Empoli despite starring for Venezia last season.

“The coach is one of the reasons why I’m here in Empoli; he pushes you to always give your best, last season at Venice made me a better player. A coach who wants the best from the team, who likes to work hard: in this way he makes the players grow. Personally, I am grateful to the coach for this opportunity.

On his chances of stamping his spot as the main right back for Empoli,

“Every player wants to play from the beginning, it happens in all clubs not only in Empoli. I think competition makes you better. Petar Stojanovic is a great player, I know I have to compete with him: if Petar is a regular it means that I have to do better in training, while if I were to leave, he would have to do better.

“Empoli is a small city – continued Ebuehi – perfect for concentrating on football and this is the most important thing. It is different from Venice.”
