The valiant Super Falconets have been eliminated from the 2022 FIFA U20 World Cup in Costa Rica after conceding two first half goals in a match filled with controversies.

Falconets were favorites before the game after finishing their group with a 100% record, beating France, South Korea and Canada.

The Dutch team finished second in their group and were underdogs in the match but showed that they had enough to capsize the Nigerians.

Falconets had a penalty shout in the 7th minute through Flourish Sabastine from the left flank but a penalty was not awarded to the young Nigerians despite the striker going down under a challenge.

Against the run of play, Zera Hulswit made no mistake at the 11th minute as she volleyed the ball into the net to give Netherland a one goal lead.

With half an hour play, a long range effort by Abiodun hit the crossbar but Okwuchukwu could not score on the rebound.

Three minutes later, a good counter attacking display from the Dutch side earned them their second goal of the match as Ziva Henry capitalised on a poor clearance from the Nigerian defense to score the goal.

There was a long VAR check for a possible red card when a Dutch defender recklessly fouled Joy Jerry but she was only shown a yellow card.

The Falconets thought they had won a penalty in added time but after a rather long look at the monitor, the referee ruled that it was a ball to hand much to the disappointment of the Nigerians.
