Danish giants, FC Copenhagen have confirmed that Super Eagles’ winger, Akinkunmi Amoo has been ruled out of the rest of the season.

The 20-year-old unfortunately suffered a knee injury in a friendly game against one of the most successful football clubs in Denmark, Silkeborg IF.

“Unfortunately, Akinkunmi Amoo
suffered a serious knee injury in Saturday’s
training match against Silkeborg, and after
scanning and examinations he is unfortunately out for the rest of the season.” Confirmed by Copenhagen.

Copenhagen were crowned Danish champions in front of their bitter rivals FC Midtjylland, last season, earning them a spot in the Champions League playoffs against Turkish champions Trabzonspor.

They beat the Black Sea Storm 2-1 on aggregate to claim a spot in the group stages of the Champions League.

Unfortunately for Amoo, he won’t be participating in the Champions League with his teammates this season.

The former Hammarby winger recently returned from an injury that sidelined him for months.

“Akinkunmi Amoo, unfortunately, sustained an injury during FC Copenhagen’s training camp in the Netherlands, which is why he didn’t participate in our friendly games against Feyenoord or Club Brugge,” the club confirmed back then.

“Amoo, 20, will remain sidelined for the coming period. He played 45 minutes against Silkeborg during a training game last month, and is now rehabilitating at Number 10 with the FCK medical team.”

Amoo was invited by the then Nigeria head coach, Augustine Eguavoen for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, as a replacement for Odion Ighalo who had to withdraw from the tournament, but the call-up was not granted by Caf.

The former U-17 star was later invited for the all-important World Cup qualifiers against Ghana. Nigeria lost to Ghana on away goal rules, after playing a goalless draw in Baba Yara sports stadium in Kumasi and a 1-1 draw in Abuja to qualify for the World Cup billed to start November in Qatar.
