Liverpool’s coach, Jurgen Klopp has admitted his side defeat to Napoli as ‘the worst game’ of his time at the club as the Reds prepare to face Ajax on Tuesday night.
Klopp’s men have only managed to record two wins in six Premier League games this season. A last minute goal against Newcastle and a 9-0 thrashing of Bournemouth at Anfield, and losing 4-1 to Napoli in their Champions League opener.
Speaking ahead of the Champions League game against an inform Ajax, Klopp said Liverpool need to show class and reinvent themselves.
“I watched the game back plenty of times and it was a real horror show. It was the worst game we played since I am here.
“Eight out of 11 were below their level and the three others were not on a top level, just a normal game.
“We had a few bad ones, everyone remembers (a 7-2 defeat to) Aston Villa and others but there were always glimpses of us even in these games. In this particular game, nothing.”
Liverpool defender, Joel Matip admits those truths have been difficult to hear but believes it was important for all the issues to be aired.
“Sometimes it hurts and this is normal but in a good team, which I think we are, you can speak about these truths,” he said.
“You don’t like to hear them in the first moment sometimes but everybody knows something has to happen, we have to improve and we have to work on these kind of things and, for these kind of things, you have to talk.”
