Calvin Bassey has admitted to enjoying his first ever Champions League win while also being sad that his friends were hurt in the process.

The Super Eagles defender played the entire duration of the 4-0 trashing of his former team that featured a host of his friends and ex-teammates.

The 22-year-old also set up Mohammed Qudus for a beautiful third goal.

Ajax signed the Nigerian poster boy for €23 million in the summer to replace Martinez who joined Manchester United.

“I consider the Rangers FC players to be my friends,” Bassey told Het Parool as quoted by Ajax Fanatics .

“I played with them for two years, shared joys and sorrows. And it is not easy to hurt friends so much. But for me personally, and my family, it was a beautiful evening.”

“I will never forget this day. During the lap of honour, the supporters in the stands shouted for my shirt. But this is my first Champions League shirt. I frame it. This is one of the best days of my life, or in any case of my career,” said the defender.

Ajax will face Liverpool in tonight’s UCL game at Anfield and Bassey is expected to feature for the Dutch giants despite suffering a knee sprain in their last match against SC Heerenveen.
