Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman has scored for the third game in a row to give Atalanta a narrow win over Sassuolo and enjoy the top spot of the Seria A.

Mario Pasalic came close to scoring early on in the game but his ricocheted strike was cleared off the line by Sassuolo defense.

Sassuolo soon punished Atalanta for not converting their chances as a quick counter from the green and white side, resulted in D’Andrea playing a well lofted cross into the box for Thorstvedt to smash a superb volley beyond the goalkeeper, into the net.

Pasalic was not going to be denied the equalizer for Atalanta deep into first half injury time as a cross from the left flank pushed away by Sassuolo goalkeeper was met by Brandon Soppy who set up Pasalic for his first goal of the season and an important equalizer before the break.

Seconds into the second half, Gasperini’s side made no delay in completing the comeback against Sassuolo.

Brandon Soppy found Nigerian Ademola Lookman in the box, who dribbled a defender out of his way before roofing the ball to hit the crossbar into the net and make it 2-1 and score his fourth goal of the league.

Domenico Beradi came close to equalizing for the visitors after coming the bench but his shot could only hit the crossbar.

Jeremie Boga also tried to solidify Atalanta’s lead but couldn’t score.

The match ended 2-1 in favour of Atalanta who are now back to the top of the Seria A.
