Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi scored the solitary goal as Nottingham Forest beat his former employers Liverpool in front of his home fans.

The former Liverpool man scored in 55th minute to dent the hope of Liverpool’s resurgence after the Reds have beaten Manchester City at Anfield last weekend.

Awoniyi joined Nottingham Forest from Union Berlin this summer and has been under heavy criticism after only scoring one goal in nine Premier League appearances before now but has now scored a vital second goal that earned his team a solid three point.

The 25-year-old was first to react to a shot that hit the crossbar after a well worked free kick from his teammates.

The Nigerian was later subbed off for Joe Worrall in the 64th minute but his goal was enough to secure all three points.
