A late Victor Osimhen goal was enough to fire Spalletti’s men to the top of Serie A.

The former Lille forward fifth goal of the season ensured the three points would head back to Naples, while reaffirming the visitors’ tag as serious title contenders. He has scored in all three games since returning from an injury suffered against Liverpool on 7 September with the other two coming from the bench.

Jose Mourinho’s men were hoping to make it back to back win after picking the maximum three points away at Sampdoria on Wednesday.

Roma struggled to create any clear scoring chance in the game, having zero shot on target.

Speaking to DAZN after the game, Mourinho said : “You have to have certain types of qualities to win but right now, there aren’t any. We have to be more decisive upfront, what lodges into the statistics are the shots on goal. Then I also look at the half opportunities, those that you have to transform into opportunities as Osimhen did.

“The players make the difference, sometimes I am sorry to see the efforts of my players that play minutes. Sometimes it is not an equal fight, we are a team that when fatigue accumulates, we go into difficulty. Congratulations to Napoli who won without deserving to, we lost without deserving to. Irrati didn’t have a great game.” He concluded.

Napoli remains unbeaten in Serie A and also in the Champions League this season.
