The Nigeria U17 Women National Team have landed in Nigeria today after securing a third place finish at the FIFA Under 17 Women’s World Cup in India.

The players, coaching crew and staff left their host country India by 4 am on Tuesday, and transited at Addis-Ababa, Ethiopia, before arriving at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

President of the Nigeria Football Federation Alhaji Gusau and the former president of the federation Amaju Melvin Pinnick were with the ladies for the last few days of the tournament.

On Sunday, this Under 17 Women team made history by becoming the first ever women team of this age grade to win any medal.

The previous best finish for the country has been in 2010, 2012, and 2014 when Nigeria got to the quarterfinals of this competition.

Flamingos had a chance of getting to the final but narrowly lost out on penalties to Colombia 6-5.

However, they redeemed themselves in the third place match against Germany, beating the Germans to the bronze.

Captain of the Super Eagles, Ahmed Musa MON also gifted the team three million Naira for their triumph.

Spain were eventual winners of the competition, beating Colombia 1-0 in the final.
