Bayern Munich and Senegal captain, Sadio Mane has been ruled out of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar after picking up an injury against Werder Bremen.
The Senegal forward was involved in the Bavarians first goal, which was scored by Jamal Musiala. Mane was later substituted in the 21st minute at the Allianz Arena, having received treatment on the pitch and subsequently signalled to the bench he could not continue.
Reacting after the game on Tuesday, Bayern Munich coach, Julian Nagelsmann says Mane “took a knock to the head of his tibia. It’s always uncomfortable. He has to have an X-ray. I hope nothing is wrong.”
But according to a French tabloid, L’equipe, the 30-year-old forward is set to miss the Mundial event in Qatar.
The Teranga Lions of Senegal are in Group A along with the host nation, Qatar, Ecuador and the Netherlands.
Mane is Senegal’s record scorer with 34 goals and scored the decisive penalty as his country beat Egypt to win the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year.
The ex-Liverpool man was key to Senegal’s qualification for the Mundial event in Qatar – the third time the nation has ever qualified for a World Cup – scoring the decisive penalty in a clash with Egypt.
