Stand-in captain of the Super Eagles William Troost-Ekong has shed light on what drives the Super Eagles team to battle the Portuguese football national team in a friendly match this evening in Lisbon.
Super Eagles will not be involved in the FIFA World Cup and any competition till March 2023 but the vice-captain of the side has acknowledged that the boys are still motivated and in high spirit to win the game.
When asked by Ojora Babatunde of OJBSPORTS of what drives the team for the Portugal game despite no competition for the next 3-4 months, Ekong replied:
“It’s always a great opportunity to play against a very strong team. I think of course,” the stand-in captain stated.
“Portugal are among the best teams in the world and for us as a team we are trying to go in to improve.
“Try to improve our game, we still have a lot of things to work on and playing against one of the best teams in the world is a great opportunity to see again where we are and to hopefully make is stronger in preparation for the games that we have coming in March.
“It’s always a good opportunity for us to be together for some days and to just work on the team cohesion,” Ekong concluded .
The international friendly match will be played today at the Estadio Jose Alvalade stadium in Lisbon by 7:45pm (WAT).
