The 2022 Ballon D’Or winner Karim Benzema will miss the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar after suffering a thigh injury during training.

The 34-year-old will not be part of the 26-man-squad for France in this World Cup per equipedefrance official social media page.

Benzema who missed the 2018 World Cup in Russia because he was suspended from the France national team will also miss the 2022 World Cup because he has injured the quadriceps of his left thigh with just few hours to the start of the tournament.

He joins Presnel Kimpembe, Christopher Nkuku, Ngolo Kante, Mike Maignan, and Paul Pogba as the French main stars out of the World Cup.

On his injury and World Cup miss, the Best Player in the World said: “In my life I have never given up… but tonight I have to think of the team as I have always done so reason tells me to leave my place to someone who can help our group to make a great world cup. Thank you for all your messages of support”.

This also means that the number one and two in the Ballon D’Or rankings will be out of the tournament as Sadio Mane has also been ruled out earlier.
