Australia’s effort to pull a shocking result was futile as France showed no mercy in their opening game of the quest of defending their World title.

Craig Dawson put his effort beyond Hugo Lloris to score the first goal and give Australia their dream start to the tournament.

However, this dream start didn’t last for long as France showed that Australia was a mismatch for them despite being plagued by injuries.

Les Blue got back on level through Adrien Rabiot as the Juventus midfielder headed in a Theo cross from close range.

Five minutes later, Olivier Giroud tapped the ball into the net to complete the comeback for France, having not scored at all in the 2018 World Cup.

Mbappe and Giroud came close to scoring again but their efforts was not enough to lead to a goal.

Meanwhile, Mbappe will not relent as he scored France second header and third goal of the match.

France will score another header in the game, this time from the merchant Olivier Giroud who headed into the top corner a Kylian Mbappe cross.

Giroud is now tied with Henry as France all time top scorer (51 goals).
