NBA Academy Africa recorded a shocking 79-69 victory over Burundi champions Urunani on Day two of the Basketball Africa League Elite 16 East Division on Wednesday in Johannesburg.
NBA Academy Africa captain Rueben Abuchi Chinyelu scored a double-double 19 points and 17 rebounds leading his team at both ends of the floor. The 19 year old Nigerian added 2 assists and 1 steal to go with it.
For a second consecutive game, Serge Thierry Darlan scored in double figures. Darlan made 24 points, 5 steals and 7 assists with three 3-pointers.
Khaman Madit Maluach was one shot of a double-double scoring 12 pointa and 9 rebounds, 3 steals and 4 blocks for the Academy
The game which had 17 lead changes was finally decided in the fourth quarter after the ejection of Urunani’s guard Adonis Filer. Filer had scored 17 points before his ejection which meant less attacking threat for NBA Academy for the remaining part of the game.
In other games played on Wednesday, Mozambican champions Ferroviario da Beira and City Oilers of Uganda won their second Group B game to qualify for the semifinals.
Ferroviario defeated COSPN of Madagascar 84-53 while City Oilers recorded 83-73 defeat of Matero Magic.
Three players finished on double figures for the Mozambicans Ismael Nurmamade 14, Chidumafa Austin Mofunanya 13 and Hilario Malele 11.
Two players made the difference for Oilers, Falando Jones with a game high 26 points and Germaine Roebuck jr 24 points.
In the last game of the day, Cape Town Tigers made it two wins out of two following a 96-72 win over Kenya Ports Authority.
Evans Ganapamo led other three Tigers in scoring, with 20 points while Michael Gbinije added 19 points, Raphieal Putney 19 and Dhieu Deng 17.
