Two dramatic late goals gave Iran their first ever win over an European opposition, beating 10-man Wales 2-0.
Kieffer Moore led the line for Wales today after an awesome substitute performance against the USA. He tried to put CMRU ahead but his effort was well stopped by the Iranian goalkeeper.
Iran’s Ali Gholizadeh put the ball in the net for Iran but was judged offside for an early run upon VAR consultation.
Early on in the second half, Sardar Azmoun hit Wales’ right-hand post and left-hand post within seconds with the match still deadlocked.
Both goalkeepers, Wayne Hennessey and Hossein Hosseini were forced to make excellent saves from Saeed Ezatolahi and Ben Davies respectively.
In the 86th minute, Wayne Hennessey was shown a straight red card for a clumpsy challenge on Mehdi Taremi outside the box. Danny Ward was subbed on to replace him.
Few minutes later, Messi Taremi shot blew past the post but the Welsh defense was still infiltrated when Rouzbeh Cheshmi fired home 9 minutes after 90.
And as Wales tried to equalize, Iran broke away on a counter and Ramin Rezaeian chipper the goalkeeper to make it 2-0.
