Argentina beat Mexico 2-0, as Messi equals Diego Maradona’s record for most Argentine goals in the World Cup (8).

The Albiceleste reignited their hope of qualifying for the knock out stages of the World Cup so as to set eyes on the ultimate prize after winning Mexico 2-0.

It was a disappointing first 60 minutes with Alexis Vega free kick being saved by Eminialo Martinez in goal for Argentina and Lionel Messi free kick also going over the bar, minutes later.

At the turn of hour, the game burst up to light with Leo Messi showing his quality again by freeing himself up before lashing to the bottom corner from 25 yards a pass from Angel Dimaria.

Mexico tried so hard to fight back but were shut down when youngster Enzo Fernandez received a pass from Messi’s corner kick, did some incredible footwork on the right side of the attack, then curling it into the top corner of the net beyond Ochoa in the Mexico goal post. It was Enzo’s first Argentina goal of his senior career, a memorable one and one of the contenders for the goal of the tournament.

This result means that Mexico must win Saudi Arabia in the final group game and hope for USA to beat Poland for both teams to qualify.
