Ferroviario da Beira of Mozambique and Cape Town Tigers of South Africa are through to season 3 of the Basketball Africa League (BAL) in Johannesburg on Saturday.

In a close contest, Ferroviario da Beira beat Urunani 68-62 to secure automatic qualification for the BAL 2023.

Helton Ubisse dominated the paint at both ends of the floor for Beira and made a double-double (21 points and 13 rebounds).

Will Perry and Ismael Nurmamade also combined for 27 points, Perry (14), and Nurmamade (13) while Michael Murry also made 11 boards and 4 assists.

In the other semi final game, Cape Town Tigers picked the second automatic qualifying spot for the Basketball Africa League after beating City Oilers 75-69 in a thrilling encounter.

The Tigers who led the game from start until the fourth quarter, gave it up but rallied back to claim it in the last 2:45 minutes of the game.

Cape Town Tigers Dhieu Deng hit consecutive threes in the final minutes of the fourth quarter to turn the game around.

Deng scored 24 points, 3 rebounds and 3 blocks with three 3-pointers, Evans Ganapamo had 22, Daniel Pieter Prinsloo contributed 11 points and 6 rebounds while Raphiael Putney was a monster on the boards for the Tigers. He crashed 11 boards, and 10 was from the defensive end.

Urunani and City Oilers will have another shot at qualifying for the 2023 BAL in a Third-Place playoff game on Sunday.
