Senegal came into the final group stage match to play a must win game against Ecuador and were able to secure their win, fighting back from 1-1 to win 2-1.
Senegal understandably piled the pressure early on the Ecuadorians with Idrissa Gana Gueye and Boulaye Dia coming close but had their shots off target.
Senegal had their reward for the early pressure when they were awarded a penalty when Ismaïla Sarr was fouled in the box. The talisman Sarr in the absence of Sadio Mane stepped up and slotted the ball into the net effortlessly.
With Ecuador not really creating much chances, Ecuador had to take advantage of a set piece. Moises Caicedo scored a flick on from a free kick.
In less than two minutes, Senegal got themselves a free kick, which was swung in by Gueye and headed towards the path of the captain Kalidou Koulibably to score inch-perfect volley.
