Germany have followed the footsteps of Belgium, as they are knocked out of the World Cup with Japan taking all three points against Spain to deny them knockout football.

The German team knew they needed to win and hope for Spain to defeat Japan to qualify and they did start with a fine form when Serge Gnabry headed home from a superb cross from David Raum.

In the second half, and as Japan took a shock lead over Spain, Costa Rica’s Yeltsin Tejeda made Germany pay for their missed chances when he scored the equalizer with his first goal for his country to compound Germany problem.

Their problem even increased when Costa Rica took the lead to propel the South American side to second and be in contention for the round of 16 stages too after Germany had hit the post thrice with  Antonio Rüdiger hitting the post once and Jamal Musiala striking the woodwork twice.

Kai Havertz then scored a brace to put Germany in the driving seat even though their qualification was still out of their hands.

Niclas Füllkrug made it 4-2 at the death but this could not change the course of the tournament.
