PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi has stated that he believes Lionel Messi will extend his contract the the Paris based club, suggesting that he is “happy” at the club.

Lionel Messi future has been under the microscope because the seven time Ballon D’Or winner will run out his contract by June unless he pens down a renewal.

Speaking in a recent interview, Les Parisiens’president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, confirmed that contract negotiations will take place after the World Cup.

“I confirm a thousand times that Leo Mesi is very happy with PSG. I think he wants to stay,”Al-Khelaifi said, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano. “We will discuss after the World Cup,” he added.

Messi has been linked to several other clubs including Inter Miami in the MLS and a possible return to FC Barcelona in Spain.

The 35-year-old left Barcelona for PSG last year after the Catalonia based club had financial crisis and were unable to register him.

Messi had a difficult start to life at the Parc de Princes but has sprung back to the golden Messi this season, recording 12 goals and 14 assists from 19 matches across all competitions before the World Cup.

In the World Cup, he is the joint top scorer with 5 goals and assist provider with 3 in six games for Argentina.
