France goalkeeper, Hugo Lloris has described their FIFA World Cup final defeat to Argentina in Qatar as a “boxing match.”

The 2018 World champions came back from two goals to force Argentina to extra time in a game that can be described as one of the greatest World Cup games ever.

Argentina seemed to be coasting with a 2-0 win . But consecutive goals within two minutes from Kylian Mbappe changed the tenor of the game and sent it to extra time.

The PSG duo, Messi and Mbappe found the back of the net in both half of the extra time to send the game to penalty.

Argentina’s goalkeeper, Emiliano Martinez shined yet again, thwarting France’s comeback with shot-blocking and mind games to seal it, 4-2.

Reacting after the game, Hugo Lloris said : “It’s a painful story, in any case which ends in a painful way. It’s true that we miss our first period, with a lot of technical waste, we don’t win the duels, they put them in difficulty.

“Logically they lead in the score. In the middle of the second period, we had the burst of pride and the talent of Kylian to come back to 2-2. It was like a boxing match, blow for blow.” He concluded.
